Note: Gertie devoted most of her adult life to animal rescue. She was a very sweet lady who would go without eating to feed all her furbabies. I met her when I worked for a local animal organization. Unfortunately, the cats had to be removed, as she became too old to care for them.
Gertrude R. Makarwich, 99, died Saturday, October 23, 2004 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home. Gertrude was born in Keesville, N.Y. and was a homemaker for most of her life. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Makarwich in 1991. Survivors include her son, Alan S. Makarwich Sr. and his wife Dolores of Guilderland; five grandchildren, Melinda Shelton of Troutsville, Va., Alan S. Makarwich Jr. of Guilderland, Joseph J. Makarwich of Watervliet, Matthew E. Makarwich and Robert M Makarwich, both of Rotterdam; six great-grandchildren, Danielle Shelton and Kyle Shelton, Matthew Makarwich II, Justyce Makarwich, Jennifer Makarwich and Joseph J. Makarwich II. She was predeceased by a brother, George Roberts and a sister, Frances Bishop.
