Little Samuel was born in Peilau, Twp. Reichenbach, Dist. Breslau, Silesia. Following WWII, Breslau was renamed Wroclaw, Poland.
The Hirdler family sailed from Bremen, Germany, on September 19, 1860, aboard the Herzogin Von Brabant. On the ship's manifest, Samuel was listed as four months old.
He died aboard ship and was buried at sea before the ship reached New York City on October 30, 1860.
Family history is that baby Samuel died from injuries he received from a falling trunk.
