Candelario Ruiz was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and educator who passed on to his eternal reward on Sunday, March 15, 2009. Candelario was born to Santiago Dimas Ruiz and Atilana Rojas Ruiz on October 13, 1936 in Alice, Texas. A graduate from San Diego High School in 1955 who then went to receive a Bachelors Degree from Texas A&I University- Kingsville. He taught agriculture in Victoria Texas and Rio Grande City. After acquiring a Masters Degree in Education Administration, he then served as principal at Mary R Garcia Elementary and J. Luz Saenz Elementary in Alice. Later then becoming the Director of Personnel for Alice Independent School District, which he served until his retirement.

Candelario is survived by his wife of 41 years of marriage, Maria Margarita Guerrero Ruiz of Alice, Texas; 2 daughters, Cecilia M. Ruiz of Round Rock, Texas; Silvia R. Ruiz of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandson, Daniel Kalin Garcia. His siblings are Justo R. Ruiz of Jim Wells County; Elodia (Esequiel) Carrillo of Dallas, Texas; Elma (Roy) Trejo of Dallas, Texas; Mucio (Beatrice) Ruiz of Grand Prairie, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.

He had a love and passion of ranching and made La Pila Blanca, outside of San Diego, his home away from home with his horses and cattle. He enjoyed giving back to the community which was shown through his years of service as a member of South Texas Trail Riders, coach for the American Little League and member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3169 as a 4th Degree Knight.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a rosary to be recited at 7:00PM that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 10:00AM at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas. Interment will follow at La Pila Blanca Cemetery in La Pila Blanca Commaity.
