Elijah married, about 1781, his 4th cousin Elizabeth (Betsey) Edgerton (1764-1797) then of Pawlet, Rutland County, Vermont by whom he had 8 children: Alexander (1782-1843), Jacob (1785-1787), Lois (b. 1787), Jonathan (b. 1789), Williard G. (b. 1792), Charles (1794-1795), Mary (b. 1796), and Elizabeth (b. 1797). Their first 3 children were born in Bennington, Vermont. Their last 5 children were born in South Hero (now Grand Isle), Vermont.

Elijah married (2nd), 1798, Rebecca Stark (1779-1861) by whom he also had 8 children: Charles (b. 1799), Caroline (b. 1801), James W. (b. 1803), Asabel (1805-1840), Ruth Ann (b. 1807), Elijah (b. 1809), Ahi (b. 1811), and Sarah (b. 1818). Elijah (1754-1920) died at Grand Isle, Grand Isle County, Vermont, December 12, 1820.
