Marjorie A. Bender, 86, of Moline, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 9:30 a.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Moline, where she was a member. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where a Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church or Trinity Pathway Hospice.

Marjorie was born May 24, 1922, in Edmund, Minn., the daughter of Paul and Elizabeth Furkus Melanson. She then met the love of her life and married Walter C. Bender on June 6, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death Aug. 3, 1989.

Marjorie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, a former member of the Friends Circle Club, Moline, and served as a volunteer at Trinity Medical Center.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Jeff Obermiller, East Moline, a son and daughter-in-law, David and Lisa Bender, Rockton, Ill.; grandchildren, Jami, Matt and Molly; sisters and brother-in-law, Helen Lovelett, Sauk Rapids, Minn., and Jean and Jim Wills, Milaca, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Irene Thompson.
