Services for Mrs. Amato will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Phyllis was born on March 16, 1928, in Rock Island, a daughter of John and Marie (Van Den Hende) McGinnis. She married Vincent Amato on June 14, 1947, in Rock Island. He preceded his wife in death on Feb. 27, 1996.
Mrs. Amato worked for 27 years as the assistant director of medical records at the former Franciscan Hospital. Mrs. Amato was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. She took joy in sewing, reading mysteries and baking pies for her family and her grandchildren. Phyllis had a gorgeous smile, sparkling blue eyes and a wonderful laugh. She loved her family dearly.
Survivors include her children, Michael (Vicki) Amato, Gap, Pa., Diana (Ken) Klimpel, Redlands, Calif., Debra Hart, Hampton, and Kathy Amato, Moline; grandchildren, Christopher, Jason, Staci, Douglas, Darren, Ryan, Lisa, Allison and Michael; 13 great-grandchildren.
