US Continental Congressman. During the Revolutionary War, he served as a Captain in the Continental Army. He served in the South Carolina State house of representatives in 1779 and was elected a member of the Second Continental Congress in 1780. From 1786 to 1788, he was a member of the State house of representatives, State legislative council in 1789 and the State constitutional convention in 1790. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
