John R. Cook, 102, of Belgrade, died January 10, in the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital of natural causes.
He was born May 21, 1888, in Tennessee to Alfred and Emma (Whitmier) Cook.
He came to Montana when he was 3 years old and settled with his family in Belgrade. He received his schooling at Dry Creek and Belgrade.
On January 5, 1911, he married Margaret Sales in Bozeman.
He farmed in the valley and raised Hereford cattle his entire life. He retired in the late 1950s and remained on the ranch until 1980 when he moved to his daughter's home near Belgrade.
He is survived by his son, George Cook of Bozeman; a daughter, Mae Freeman of Belgrade; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1975; a son, Clyde in 1956; two brothers; and a sister.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 in the Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel. Interment in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Manhattan Presbyterian Church, or to the Gallatin County Rest Home.
