Peggy Yvonne Deloria, age 66, a long-time resident of Slaton, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013. At the time she died, she was with her son and his family at their home in Albuquerque, NM. Cremation arrangements were made by Riverside Funeral Home in Albuquerque. A private memorial to release her ashes will be held at a later date.

Peggy was born April 14, 1947 in Floydada, TX to Elmer Pete and Yvonne (Green) McGee, granddaughter of Fred and Cynthia "Lee" (Furgerson) McGee, John and Sarah (McRae) Green and George and Nell (Aderholt) Gafford. She was married four times - first in 1963 to Kenneth A. Carey; second in 1968 to Glen H. Henderson; 3rd in 1979 to Carlon Edward Cantrell (died in 2008); and 4th in 1989 to Larry W. Deloria. Although the marriages did not survive, she was appreciative of each for showing her something new about the world.

Peggy attended Monterey High School in Lubbock. She loved arts and crafts, oil painting being her favorite medium. She also loved music and still enjoyed playing the piano that her parents had bought for her as a little girl. She was passionate about the environment, wildlife and animal rights. She loved the mountains of Wyoming and enjoyed reminiscing about when she lived there. She enjoyed family vacations at the beach in Galveston and was fascinated by ocean life. More than anything else, she loved her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents and grandparents; her brother and sister-in-law - Elmer Pete "Sonny" McGee, Jr and his wife Barbara Worth (DeLay) McGee; one grandchild - Victoria Nicole "Tori" Penny; one great grandchild; one nephew and niece - Daniel Pete McGee and his wife Elizabeth Rimmer McGee; and one grand niece - Xylina Ruth McGee.

Survivors include her four children, their spouses and 20 grandchildren - Dee Ann and Randy Ferris of Greensboro, NC (Natalie, Alex and Wil); Chris and Darla Henderson of Albuquerque, NM (Jackie, Spencer, Kit, Josh and Kristen); Julia and Tommy Berry of Lubbock (Micah, Shadoe, Jacob, Zak and Marshall); and Kristi Elliott of Milton, FL (Clayton, Matthew, Austin, Brianna, Danielle, Makenzie and Makayla). Survivors also include two nieces and one nephew - Pam McGee, Amy Ham and Nolen McGee - and their families.

The family appreciates the support of her many friends in Slaton during her illness. Permanent online memorials have been created for her at Findagrave and Fold3. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to breast cancer research and support, national or state parks, environmental or wildlife causes, the humane society or animal shelters.
