Iva Delilah Long was born September 29, 1898 to William Douglas Long and Sarah Millie or Amelia Brown at Fremont, Ohio.
She spent her youth in Fremont. Her family moved from Fremont to a house near Burgoon at a place called Winters Station when passenger trains ran on the railroad. They lived there when she met and married Ervin Bennett. They had lived together about three months when he was called to serve in the army in WWI. After some 11 months in the service, Ervin was reported missing in Europe. After about 6 months, the War Department informed Iva that her husband had been killed in action.
Sometime later around 1919 when she was visiting relatives in Oceola, she met Fred Mutchler. He had returned home from the army in December, 1918. They were married on Oct 7, 1920 in Fremont, Ohio. They lived in Burgoon, Ohio where they raised their 5 children.
