Brier Police Officer Eddie A. Thomas, 28, passed away in the line of duty on September 12, 2006. He was born to Diane and Eddie Lee on September 27, 1977. Eddie grew up in south Snohomish County and graduated from Mountlake Terrace High School in 1997. Continuing his education at Everett Community College and Crown College in Tacoma, he earned his associate's degree in criminal justice. Eddie had many interests. He enjoyed being a handyman on his rental properties; loved riding his new Harley and hoped to become Briers' first motorcycle officer. He enjoyed a real good beer, fishing, camping and especially boating which put a grin on his face reaching from ear-to-ear. Eddie began his career with the Quinault Police Department in Taholah, as well as with the Evergreen State College Police Department. Just prior to joining the Brier Police Department in January of 2006, he was a sergeant with the Sauk-Suiattle Police Department in Darrington for four years. During his time with the Brier Police Department, Eddie was always looking for grants and programs that could benefit the Department. He was successful in securing grants for equipment and training. Recently he had arranged for a donation of a crime scene van to the City. Eddie also served as a port security officer with the rank of Petty Officer in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and had recently returned from a two-week assignment. He was a member of the Maritime Safety and Security Team based in Seattle. Formed after 9/11, the unit is the first of its kind in the Country. Eddie was part of a special capabilities team trained to use SWAT tactics and skills. He was assigned to the Coast Guard's Waterside Security Section.
