Fred W. Freeman Sr., 75, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 8:48 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, in Union Hospital. He retired from Alcan Aluminum after more than 28 years of service, and later worked many years in construction for his son at CLCJ Construction. He was born Jan. 29, 1937, in West Terre Haute, to Fred and Eppy Freeman.
Survivors include his wife, Fern Almary Fagg Freeman, whom he married Aug. 5, 1956, in Terre Haute; his children, Debra Monts and husband John of West Terre Haute, Fred Freeman Jr. and companion Amy of Terre Haute, and Donna Jones and husband Tom of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Judy Smith and husband Harry of Oklahoma City, and Linda Cassagne and husband Larry of West Terre Haute; two brothers, Larry Freeman and wife Jean of West Terre Haute, and Terry Freeman and wife Mary Jo of Williamsport; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and an abundance of special friends. He was preceded in death by an infant child; his parents; and three brothers, Norman, Doyle, and Donald Freeman.
Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, hunting, and fishing. He loved traveling, and most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with Pastor Keith Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park, with graveside military rites by the Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 9 a.m. until services Friday.
