James J. Dieter, 85, of Aurora, April 12, 2011; beloved husband of Lois, nee Hanson and the late Lucille, nee Lakeman; loving father of Karen (Kelly) Jones, Laura (Russ) Larson, James (Star), Jerry (Julie), Jan (Jeff) Harwig, Dan (Vicki) and John (Liz); devoted grandfather of 18, great-grandfather of four, step-grandfather of four; loving son of the late Joseph and Lauretta Dieter; dear brother of Ralph (Dee), Len (Elaine), and the late Virginia Rose and Paul Dieter; fond uncle to many. Funeral Friday, April 15, 9:30 a.m. from The Daleiden Mortuary, 220 N. Lake St., Aurora to Blessed Sacrament Church, 801 W. Oak St., North Aurora for Mass at 10 a.m. Interment private. James J. Dieter, 85, of Aurora, formerly of North Aurora, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville. He was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Wheaton, Ill. James owned and operated Dieter Trucking Company of Naperville with his brothers for many years. He also was employed by the City of West Chicago for 10 years until his retirement. James was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Phoenix Club. He was an avid biker of the many Fox Valley bike trails and also loved to travel. Survivors include his loving wife, Lois; his children, Karen (Kelly) Jones of Lisle, Laura (Russ) Larson of Westerville, Ohio, James (Star) Dieter of Geneva, Jerry (Julie) Dieter of Yorkville, Jan (Jeff) Harwig of Franklin, Wis., Dan (Vicki) Dieter of Aurora and John (Liz) Dieter of Naperville; stepchildren, Karen Lois (Randy) Horn of Aurora, Kimberly Rae (R.J.) Montez of Odessa, Texas, ,and Linda Joy Boroski of Oswego; 18 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his stepson-in-law, Loren Averkamp; brothers, Ralph (Dee) Dieter of Naperville and Len (Elaine) Dieter of Benson, Minn.; sisters, Kathleen Mattingly of Winfield, Ill., and Gloria (Bob) Brummel of Sheridan, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 25 years and mother of his children, Lucille (Lakeman) Dieter; parents, Joseph and Lauretta Dieter; sister, Virginia Rose; and his brother, Paul Dieter. Funeral services will begin Friday, April 15, at the Daleiden Mortuary, 220 N. Lake St., Aurora, IL 60506, at 9:30 a.m. proceeding to Blessed Sacrament Church at 10 a.m. Fr. John Slampak, S.T.L. will officiate. Interment will be private. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 14 from 2 to 8 p.m. with a liturgical wake service at 2 p.m. at the mortuary.
