Death: May 21, 1849

Ohio, USA

Isaac was the son of Theophillus and Esther Packard, born in Mass. When about seven years his father removed to Ohio, where he became an honored resident. His mother died when he was eight yrs of age, missing his best friend and counsellor. He went, after this, to live with a responsible family in Licking Co., where he remained several years. He came under the preaching of Rev. Geo. W. Baker, and at about sixteen years of age he began attending the Granville Academy. Afterwafd, he entered upon the business of teaching.
In 1844, he spent about nine months in KY in this employment, when he was prevented by an attack of fever, implicating his lungs. After a few weeks recuperating, he returned to Ohio to his family and friends.
He united with the Freewill Baptists at Liberty, was baptized by Rev. Goodwin Evans, a FWB minister. He soon felt impressed to enter the work of the Christian ministry. He received license by the First FWB church in Liberty, Licking Co., April 11, 1846. He received public ordination in May 28, 1848.
He rode horseback through the western counties of the State, preaching from place to place, then spent the winter teaching and filling in regular preaching appoinments.
Again, he entered a course of study in Granville College in early 1848, but constant preaching and studies began to prey upon his feeble bodily powers and his health became much impaired. His disease was such that he knew his time was short. He made disposition of his books to his family, chose President Bailey, of Granville College to preach his funeral. He requested that he be buried beside his mother and sister--- and on May 21, 1849, with his devoted sister and a minister by his bedside, he passed peacefully to the other world.
It is written, that "those who knew him best, esteemed him most. He was a young man of uncommon promise. He was mild, modest, and affable in all the intercourse of life, and was greatly endeared to many hearts."
