At about this time he became a pioneer in northwestern Iowa, and made his home at Spencer, where he died Jan. 20, 1889. He was an untiring worker and his labors were blessed to the good of many. The results of his labors in Iowa will be manifest for years to come. Nearly half a century ago he was married to Miss B. E. White, who still lives (1889). Thy have two children, Rev. R.A. Coats, and Mrs. Frank Wells.
