DEATH OF JAMES T. MARTIN
James T. Martin, died at his home south of town (Hunnewell, MO) Monday morning Feb. 18, after an illness of several months. Mr. Martin was born in Clark County, Ky., February 28, 1812 and was 17 years of age when his father's family settled in Monroe county. But he returned to Kentucky the same year to go to school, where he remained for several years, and during that tie he learned the saddlers trade, and on returning to Monroe county he sat up a shop at Old Clinton where he did business for a number of years.
In 1848 he engaged in farming and has since followed that occupation and he lived on the same farm since 1848.
He was married December 18, 1853 to Miss Mary J. Fowler, and to this union were born seven children but two of whom are now living. William R. Martin and Mrs. Matt Lasley.
Mr. Martin was one of the oldest residence in the north part of the Monroe county and was highly respected and esteemed by all who knew him, he was a faithful member of the M.E. Church, South.
His funeral services were conducted at the Deer Creek church Tuesday afternoon by Rev. S. R. Dillman to a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends, after which his remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place.
The bereaved wife, son and daughter have the sympathy of the entire community.
