Sergeant Anton Meisinger, of the Ninth District, 44 years of age, of 1923 Withnell Avenue, shot and killed himself at about 8 PM Sunday, by shooting himself twice in the left breast.
Sergeant Meisinger had been confined to his bed with a complication of diseases since March, and is thought to have been in delirium brought on by his illness when he committed the deed. His wife, Kate, was in the yard, and his 17 year old daughter, Catherine, was in another room when the shots were fired. A .32 caliber revolver with two empty sheels was found next to the bed.
His wife said she thought he had obtained the gun from a trunk in an adjoining room, where three guns were kept, while alone.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from Ziegenhein's funeral parlors, 2623 Cherokee street, after which the body will be interned in Lakewood Park Cemetery.

The pall-bearers selected were Sergeant Edward S. Rice, 2Nd District, Patrolmen William F. Meyer, 3Rd District, Fred Kraemer, 7Th District, Thomas N. Baser, 8Th District, Charles D Dolan, 10Th District, and Joseph P. Dunn. Central District.

Sergeant William J. McCauley, of the 9Th District will be in charge of the honorary escort of 16 officers, which will accompany the remains to the cemetery. The Police Band will also be in attendance at the funeral.

The late Sergeant joined the department on June 18, 1907, when he was 28 years old, being appointed a probationary patrolman at that time. One year later he was promoted to patrolman, and on August 8, 1922 he was made a Sergeant.

He was assigned to the homicide squad when he was promoted to Sergeant, and later, at his own request, because of illness, was transferred to the Ninth District.

The Police Journal, on behalf of the Board of Police Commissioners and members of the department, extend their deepest sympathy to the widow and daughter of this fine Officer in their sad bereavement.

He was the son of Philip and Anna (nee Ernst) Meisinger.

He was a brother of Alderman George Meisinger of the 10Th Ward.

Attempts to locate the burial location of his wife was to no avail.

Burial was held at Lakewood Park Cemetery on 06/20/1923.
