༺⊰❁ Elizabeth Briggs Powell Secrist Kizer was the daughter of John and Caroline Peterson Briggs, born on October 8, 1803 in Pendelton County, Virginia. At around one year old her parents moved to Ohio where she lived out most of her life.
It has been said she met William Powell while they were both working on or near a Buffenbarger farm, Buffenbarger's being related to William. On November 16, 1820 they married in Clark County, Ohio.

Known children of William and Elizabeth Briggs Powell:
1) Malinda J. Powell, born May, 1821, Ohio; death 1906, Madison Township, Clark County, Ohio. Married Dr. Salmon Buffenbarger who died in 1870. Malinda then married Giles Herrick later in 1870. Malinda died in 1906, Clark County, Ohio;
2) John Briggs Powell, born March 19, 1824, South Charleston, Clark County, Ohio;
3) Elizabeth Powell; and
4) Sarah Catherine Powell.

At some time Elizabeth and William separated by divorce. Elizabeth then married a man by the last name of Secrist and nothing more is known of this union at this time. Elizabeth then married Jacob Kizer after his wife Hannah passed away in 1870. They married on February 5, 1870 in Richland County, Ohio. Nothing more is known of this union and no known children. William married Mary Jane Anderson Powell on August 07, 1836 in possibly Clark County, Ohio. They had 7 children:
1) William Powell,
2) Martha "Mary" Powell,
3) Maria Powell (?),
4) George Powell,
5) Minerva Powell,
6) Jerutha Powell, and
7) Salmon Powell.
