Sergeant First Class Sell was a medic of the Medical Company, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded in South Korea on August 9, 1950 and returned to duty on August 29, 1950. He was seriously wounded again while tending his wounded comrades in North Korea on December 1, 1950 and died of those wounds on December 31, 1950. His remains were not recovered. Sergeant First Class Sell was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Medical Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
