Commander of Headquarters Company of the 192nd Tank Battalion, a unit made up of National Guard units from Wisconsin, Illinois, Kentucky and Ohio. The Battalion arrived at Clark Field in the Philippine Islands in the fall of 1941. On December 8, 1941 they were attacked by Japanese forces. These attacks continued until until April of 1942 when they surrendered to the Japanese. He was held as a Prisoner of War until he was executed by the Japanese. In 1952 his remains, along with those of the other soldiers murdered the day he was, were returned to The United States. Their remains could not be identified individually, so they were all buried in a common grave in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Missouri. This is a cenotaph monument for Capt. Bruni.
