Cristy -- Edward James Cristy, at the age of 103 plus 9 months met his"appointment with Jesus" Friday evening November 8, 2002 at Gila Regional Medical Center. His memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 PM Sunday November 24, 2002 at Bright Funeral Home. Interment will take place the following day in the Cristy family plot at Fairview Memorial Park in Albuquerque. Mr. Cristy was born January 21, 1899 in Albuquerque, the Territory of New Mexico. He was the son of Edward Buxton and Estelle Gillespy Cristy. Edward B. Cristy and his wife were born and reared in Greenwich, CT and came to Albuquerque in the late 1890's after Mr. Cristy established his office as an architect. Mr. Cristy is survived by is daughter, Patricia Ann Cristy Hornbaker of Bayard; four grandchildren Raymond Wayne and his wife Soledad and their son Jo-el Raymond of El Paso, TX; Edward Dean and his wife Nancy Jean and their children Susan Renee, twins Stephanie Ruth and Stephen Edward and Sarah Elaine of Holcomb, KS; Ann Elizabeth Hornbaker of Lakewood, CO; and Elaine Cristyne and her daughter Carina Rose of El Paso, TX; his caregivers Matthew and Judy Evans of White Signal; a stepdaughter Ann K. Wilcox of Truckee, CA; a niece and nephew in Dallas, TX Joanne Henderson Pratt and her husband James and Philip Cristy Henderson and his wife Jerry; their children and grandchildren; a niece in Las Vegas, NV Ellen Hambel Funk. Mr. Cristy was preceded in death by his first wife, Esta Floy Hambel whom he married October 20, 1922 and his second wife Helen Frances Gebhart whom he married March 29, 1962; his parents; a sister Anne Cristy Henderson; his son-in-law H. Wayne Hornbaker and stepson-in-law Elmer Wilcox. Mr. Cristy was a graduate of Albuquerque High School, The University of New Mexico and Ohio State University. He was a high school History and Social Studies teacher in Ohio, Arizona and Albuquerque, NM. He retired in 1959 after 30 years at Albuquerque High School. He was enlisted in the U. S. Army briefly before the end of World War I. During World War II he served in the U. S. Navy for almost three years on the submarine tender USS Proteus in the Pacific and in the radar office at Pearl Harbor. After retirement he lived at Corrales, NM and several places in California and Oregon before coming to Grant County in October 1993 with his second wife to be near his daughter and her family. He had been a member of the First United Methodist Church for several years before becoming a part of the Fellowship at Calvary Chapel Silver City. Honorary Pallbearers will be all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
