Walter Baxter Brooks 1921 ~ 2007 Our beloved father and grandfather, Walter Baxter Brooks, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2007, surrounded by his family.

He was born May 27, 1921, to Walter Kiddle and Mary Isabella Baxter Brooks. Growing up in Salt Lake City, Walt attended South High School before serving as a missionary in the North Central States Mission. Upon his return, he entered the United States Army, serving his country during World War II in the Philippines and Japan. A decorated war veteran, he received the Purple Heart and other medals.

He married his sweetheart Lucile Black in the Salt Lake Temple on June 14, 1949. Together they raised five sons in Murray, Utah. After studying accounting and bookkeeping at Stevens-Henager College, Walt began a career with CIT Financial Services where he was accounting manager for 28 years. Later he enjoyed his employment with Murray City as Assistant City Recorder.

Walt was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life, serving in many positions including Bishop of the Murray 11th Ward. As a couple, Walt and Lucile completed a mission in the Ohio Akron Mission, and later served as ordinance workers in the Jordan River Temple. Never seeking the limelight, he quietly served everyone around him. During the later years of his life, Walt received loving care from the Utah State Veterans Nursing Home. The family expresses their gratitude for all of the caregivers there.

Walt was preceded in death by his wife Lucile, his parents, his sister Rosa Law, and a granddaughter Shannon. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Walt and Janet (Sandy), Doug and Ginger (Sandy), Wayne and Debbie (West Jordan), John and Wendy (Roy), and Paul and Cindy (Wallace, SC); 21 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother Richard Brooks (Longmont, CO); and sister Norma Rickards (Salt Lake City).

Funeral services will be held at the Murray 11th Ward, 5750 Nena Way, Murray, UT , on Thursday, Jan. 25 2007, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit on Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, Murray, UT and from 10-10:45 a.m. at the chapel on the day of the services. Condolences can be shared with the family at
