Ninety-two year old Leona B. Faulkner died on December 14, 2012 at Rolling Meadows Health Care Center in La Fontaine, Indiana. Ms. Faulkner was born on December 2, 1920 to the late Leon and Iva (Jones) Mayer.
Ms. Faulkner was a 1938 graduate of Jefferson Township High School. On October 21, 1944 she enlisted in the United States Army. She was a World War Two veteran and was honorably discharged with the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal. Upon her return, Leona worked with her family at Pierce's Pastries in Marion.
Later Leona moved to the Ft. Wayne area and for twenty years she was a waitress at Orchard Ridge Country Club. In 1985 she retired and returned to Marion in 1986. Ms. Faulkner attended St. Louis Besancon Catholic Church. Leona enjoyed volunteering at the Veterans Affairs Northern Indiana Health Care Systems, quilting and needlework of all kinds, gardening, traveling, caring for her pets and all animals and reading. She will be remembered by her great sense of humor and having a saying for any and all occasions.
Leona B. Faulkner is survived by her children: Donna Jean (Phillip) Rust, Marion; John Robert (Linda) Faulkner, Roanoke; Cheryl Ann (Mark) Wells, Monroeville; her sister: Lila Ruth West, Matthews; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Leona B. Faulkner was preceded in death by her sisters: Martha P. Graczyk and Mary M. Ianucilli.
Visitation for Leona B. Faulkner will take place from 4 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 South Washington Street, Marion.
The Funeral Service for Leona B. Faulkner will occur at 10 am on Thursday December 20, 2012 at the Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel at 2722 South Washington Street in Marion.
Ms. Faulkner will be buried with military honors in Marion National Cemetery with Pastor Steve Colchin officiating.
