Gene Schleuse

DENISON Gene Schleuse, 86-year-old Denison resident, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Texoma Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, January 19 at Johnson-Moore Chapel with Dr. Chet Haney officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Schleuse was born on December 29, 1920 in Denison, son of Albert Henry and Minnie Burns Schleuse and attended Denison schools. He married Katie M. Evans on March 30, 1940 in Madill, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 2004.
Mr. Schleuse was a charter member of Parkside Baptist Church and a long-time member of Highland Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas. He owned and operated the White Pig Drive Inn in Lubbock from 1957 to 1995. Upon retiring he moved back to Denison to be closer to his family.
Gene was a devoted family man and often told his friends that "if you don't have family, you don't have anything". He was extremely successful and had accolades written about him in Texas Monthly. Gene was known by his family as Dad Dad and was a most generous, patient and kind man. He was the rock for the family and will always be remembered as such.
Surviving are his son, David Schleuse and wife, Damon of Fort Worth; daughter, Donna Upchurch and husband, Dale of Denison; brother, Robert Schleuse of Denison; sister, Thelma Briggs of California; grandchildren, Michael Schleuse of Atlanta, Georgia, Gregory Carter of Plano, Texas, Debbie Schleuse of McKinney, Texas and Brent Schleuse of Austin, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Greyson and Ashton Blair Carter of Plano, Texas.
Visitation will be at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
The family suggests memorials to Parkside Baptist Church Building Fund, 301 N. Lillis Lane, Denison, Texas 75020.
