Obituary from the Shreveport Times newspaper, Aug. 18, 1979, Saturday, p. 14-A:
William B. Beckett Sr., 73, of 122 Fielder Lane, died at 11:20 p.m. Thursday in Virginia Hall Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
The Little Rock, Ark., native served more than 30 years with the Shreveport Police Department and was a lieutenant at the time of his retirement. Mr. Beckett had spent most of his life in Shreveport and was a charter member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Police.
He was a member of the Louisiana Peace Officers Association and Shreveport Police, Local 646. He was a Baptist.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today in Wellman's Funeral Home with the Rev. Claude Spearman, chaplain for the Shreveport Police Department, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.
Mr. Beckett's survivors include a son, Maj. William B. Beckett Jr. of Shreveport; a daughter, Carolyn Beckett of New Orleans; and a sister, Mary Beckett Brooks of Shreveport.
Pallbearers will be O. L. Caldwell, L. E. Plaisance, E. K. Clifton, E. A. McDowell, J. K. Lanigan and C. O. Warmack Jr.
