A five-year-old Yates center child Freda Bernice Wemmer, for whom burial services were held at Highland Cemetery today, died of infantile paralysis, local physicians have agreed. Her death was reported in The Register yesterday. she had been ill two days and had been brought here for treatment. Dr. Russell P. Nevitt, county health officer ho was consulted on the diagnosis said today "all signs and symptoms" of the child's condition indicated she was afflicted with the bulbar type of poliomyelitis, which affects the respiratory region.
The child was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs Fred Wemmer of Yates Center , and a granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Wesley Wemmer, of Iola, Kansas.
Dr. Nevitt has received information from the University of Kansas hospitals that Betty Joan Croghan of La Harpe, believed to be the only Allen County victim of paralysis is getting along as well as could be be hoped, but is suffering paralysis of the limbs. she has been in the University Hospital past ten days.
