A "Substantial Farmer" according to the Parsons Sun newspaper. Married to Amanda Bingham, and had 4 children; William (b. 1862 in IL), George W. (b1864 in IL died 1882 Labette Co KS), Elizabeth (b 1869 IL), and Anna (b1873 in KS).

Later he married Elizabeth Parlett and had three children; Josephine (b1877 in KS, married Nicholas Walker Jones), Mattie (B in KS, married Harris Wright), and Benjamin Harrison Gear,.


Passing away of a Pioneer
George Gear, an old resident of Montana Township died at the home of his daughter, Sunday July 21.

Geo. Gear died Sunday July 21, at 9:20 a.m. after an illness of 12 days, at the home of his daughter, agrd 74 years, 9 months, and 21 days.

He was born in northern Vermont, Sept 30, 1837, where he lived until he was six years old, moving with his parents from there to Canada, where he lived until he was 6 years old. He then moved to Illinois and at the age of 11 (prob should say 21) was united in marriage to Amanda Bingham; to this union four children were born, W. H. Gear of Hotchkiss, Colo., Anna Beck of Chicago, Lizzie Findlay of Minooka, Ill., and George Gear Jr. (deceased).
He emigrated to Kansas in 1869 and settled in Labette County near Montana, where he has lived since. After coming to Kansas he was married to Elizabeth Parlette, to this union were born three children, Josephine Jones of Labette, Kans., Mattie Wright of St. Louis, Mo., and B. H. Gear. In 1888 his second wife died, both were active Christian workers. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in the early years of his life.
Uncle George, as he was usually called, was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his many friends. His funeral was held at the M. E. church in Montana, Tuesday, July 23, at 2:30p.m., after which he was laid to rest in the Montana cemetery.
