Russell Ranson Samples
Russell Ranson Samples, 73, of Lodi, died Thursday, November 15, 1990, at Lodi Community Hospital.
Born on March 23, 1917, in Strange Creek, W. Va., to James C. and Savina Mollohan Samples. He lived in West Virginia, moving to Lodi in 1960.
Mr. Samples was a retired United Mine worker, later working for Invacare in Lodi, retired in 1973. He was a member of the former First Baptist Church in Lodi and was a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Clara (nee Nottingham), whom he married on November 3, 1934; daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Bonnie) McElwain of Lodi; Mrs. David (Velda) Pasco of Salem, OH, Mrs. Joe (Thelma) Nodine of Raleigh, N. C., and Mrs. Donald (Wilma) Bates of Jacksonville, Fla.; sons and daughter-in-laws, James B. and Sandra of Homerville and Norman R. and Kathy of Lodi; sister, Ocie Lewis of Morris, W. Va., and Gussie King of Cuyahoga Falls, brothers, Corbet of Frametown, W. Va., Lanty of Strange Creek, W. Va., and Walter of South Charleston, W. Va.; stepsister, Mildred Duffield of Madisonburg, Ohio, and Alma Smelgas of Glen Burnie, Md; half-sister, Susan Hill of Anaheim, Calif., and Marylou of Maryland; half-brother, Ralph of California, 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Service was held at 1 p. m. Monday at Parker and Son Funeral Home, 2210 Medina Street, Lodi, Darrell Mollohan officiated. Burial was in Woodlaw Cemetery, Lodi.
