Son of Andrew M. Jr., and Roda S. Staton. Brother of Susanah and Martha.
Residence Amherst County; 23 year-old planter.
Enlisted 4/23/1861 at Amherst Court House for 12 months' service, he was mustered into Company B, 49th Virginia Infantry as a Private. (This company subsequently became Company I.)
Having reenlisted, he was listed as being on furlough at home in Nelson County since 2/17/1862.
Present on all rolls until Killed In Action in the Battle of Spotsylvania Court house, VA.
The 49th Virginia Infantry Regiment completed its organization in July, 1861. Its members were from the counties of Prince William, Warren, Fauquier, Rappahannock, Amherst, and Shenandoah. At The Wilderness and Spotsylvania 87 were lost.
