Born on his father's plantation in West Feliciana Parish, LA.
Grew up at El Dorado Plantation, Livonia, Pointe Coupee Parish.
Educated at Centenary College in Jackson.
After the war, he entered the real estate business in New Iberia.
January 4, 1864 married Laura Virginia Levy of Mississippi.
Children: Mrs. E.T. Merrick, Gervais (engineer of the Orleans Levee Board), and John (former professor at Tulane, later in business in St. Louis).
Brother to John, Margaret, Emily and Gertrude Lombard.
