Shellman—Roy Grady Thompson, 77, of Shellman died Friday, August 25, 2006 at Joe Anne Burgin Nursing Home in Cuthbert. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 28, 2006 at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Shellman, with the Rev. Olin Johnson officiating. Interment will be in East View Cemetery in Shellman.
A lifelong resident of Randolph County, Mr. Thompson was born August 27, 1928, son of the late Jesse Grady and Maude Bynum Thompson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, W. A. Thompson of Atlanta, and John L Thompson of Fox Island, WA.
Mr. Thompson was a 1945 graduate of Shellman High School, a 1947 graduate of Abraham Baldwin College and attended the University of Georgia. He was a vocational Ag teacher for 13 years. He was a magistrate judge of Randolph County for 25 years and a municipal court judge for the City of Shellman for seven years. He also served as a city councilman and was retired from a lifetime of farming. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shellman, was an ordained deacon and an active member of the Sadie Sutton Sunday school class.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann Sherrer Thompson; four children, Joseph G. and Charlis Thompson of Marietta, Timothy S. Thompson of Hiawassee, Jack and Kay Thompson of Albany, Jill and Tom Massey of Dawson; six grandchildren Meredith and Keith Thompson of Marietta, Jesse and Amy Thompson of Albany, Brock and Khristina Massey and Sherrer Massey of Dawson; one great-grand-child Thomas Henry Massey.
