History - Ruth was the 5th living child of Thomas Heber and Susannah Alvey Heaps. When she was two she had pneumonia and would have died but her mother would not give her up. She pled with the Lord to spare her life.
When Ruth was 2 1/2 years old her mother left her sitting on the floor in front of the fireplace with the other children just long enough to go across the street to ask a neighbor if he would bring her a load of wood. A hot coal popped out on the child's dress. By the time the older children noticed what had happened and got a bucket of cold water, she was all ablaze. The children had the fire out by the time Susan got in the house but most of the child's body was burned. Ruth only lived a few hours.
