An East End native and Navy veteran, Dr. Sheehan earned his medical degree at St. Louis University Medical School (Class of 1948) in Missouri. He served his internship and residency at old Pittsburgh Hospital. He practiced obstetrics and gynecology at Pittsburgh Hospital and the Forbes Health System. He retired in 1993 as medical director of utilization review for Forbes Metropolitan Hospital. During the late 1970s, he was president of staff at Pittsburgh Hospital when the merger with Columbia Hospital and the formation of the Forbes Health System took place. Forbes Health System later honored him for his dedication and service during the merger. He was a member of the Allegheny County Medical Society, the Pennsylvania State Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Pittsburgh Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, the Pittsburgh Catholic Physicians Guild, the Pittsburgh Field Club and St. Bede Church, where he was a past president of the Parish Council and Parent-Teachers Guild. Surviving are his widow, Patricia C. McCulloch; two daughters; four sons; and eight grandchildren. Friends were received at McCabe Brothers Inc. Funeral Home. A Mass was celebrated at St. Bede Church in Point Breeze; burial in Calvary Cemetery. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Friday, January 14, 1994)
