The Wapello Tribune, Friday, February 24, 1906, Page 1; Wapello, Louisa County, Iowa:
David Dotson died last Sunday (February 18, 1906) at his home three miles east of Newport after an illness of only eight days with pneumonia and complications. Deceased was born October 15, 1841, in Pennsylvania, and was aged at the time of his death 64 years, 4 months and 3 days. He came to Iowa in the year 1846, living in Des Moines and Louisa counties until his death.
He was united in marriage November 2, 1862, to Miss Lydia A. Bier. To this union five children were born, four of whom--Thurman, Nellie, Bazzie and Etta--with the wife and mother are left to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father. Deceased also leaves seven brothers and sisters, as follows: J. M. Dotson, of Columbus Junction; Mrs. S. J. Turner and J. I. Dotson, of Davenport, Washington; Mark Dotson, of Newport; Mrs. N. E. Stephens and Mrs. G. R. Deihl, of this city, and O. P. Dotson, of Eldon, Iowa. All the brothers and sisters were present at the funeral with the exception of the two from Washington state, who were unable to arrive in time. Deceased gave himself to God at the age of eighteen years, and throughout his life lived a consistent Christian. He has gone to his reward and left a blessed example.
The funeral services were held from the Fairview church Tuesday conducted by Reverend M. E. Reusch, of Wapello, with interment in the Fairview cemetery. The services were largely attended despite the inclement weather, testifying to the esteem in which the deceased was held in the community in which he lived.
