THREE IN ONE FAMILY VICTIMS OF TYPHOID-The Benkelman Post and News-Chronicle April 6, 1928
Three grown brothers have succumbed to typhoid fever in the Brandt home northeast of Lamar, Neb., within the past three weeks. The fourth one is expected to die. Though a specialist has been on the ground, as yet the source of infection has baffled investigation. About three weeks ago, the oldest son, aged 22, was stricken with the disease. Soon the next one, aged 19, took down with the same malady. Both died, and a third son, aged 17, was also stricken. It was thought for awhile it would be possible to save the third son but on last Tuesday night he passed away. The fourth son now lies at the point of death. All the men were large, strong, and healthy, of exceptional size and vitality. The source of the water supply has been tested, as has also the milk supply, and other possible sources of infection, but so far nothing has revealed the telltale germ. The Brandt family are farmers living in the edge of the hills northeast of Lamar and northwest of Chase. Everything by way of medical attention is being given in an effort to stop the ravages of the malady. Credit -Holyoke Enterprise.
