Patrick Moran Chilton Times September 8, 1883
We regret to chronicle the death of our esteemed fellow townsman, Patrick Moran. He was born March 13th, 1812, in the county of Longford, Ireland, and died at his residence in Chilton on the 16th inst., being over seventy-one years of age. Mr. Moran was not an ordinary man. His convictions were strong and always satisfactory to himself. He was not politic in any sense, rather the reverse. He was never in doubt. He knew, or did not know. As a friend or enemy he was equally strong. He detested hypocrites and liars, and his hatred for them was never concealed. So great was his love of truth, that never failed to denounce a fawning liar or rascal, whomsoever he might be.
With this sense of honor was he so deeply imbued that he sought the same quality in his friends. He was essentially an independent man. He seldom sought a favor, yet never from any one but a true and trusted friend. He was respected for his honesty of thought, convictions and purpose, and in that respect was so unlike many who survive him, that his example merits a universal following.
The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, his remains being conveyed to Milwaukee for interment. A large funeral cortege followed his remains to the depot where they were placed on board the cars.
