He was a son of Alfred and Orpha Eldora (Clark) Shockley. He married Geraldine Leak on May 1, 1915 in Hendricks County.

Dr. Clyde O. Shockley of New Ross, a widely known veterinarian and native of Lizton, died at Long Hospital in Indianapolis Sunday. He had been active in his profession when he suddenly became ill on Wednesday of last week and was taken to the hospital the following day. Funeral services were Tuesday afternoon in the Walker Funeral Home at Jamestown and burial was in the Lizton K. of P. cemetery. Rev. Hicks, pastor of the New Ross Christian Church where Dr. Shockley was a member, was the officiating minister. Dr. Shockley had resided north of Lizton, attended the schools there and was graduated from the high school there. He was graduated from the Indiana Veterinary College in 1917 and established his practice in New Ross. A veteran of World War I, he belonged to the Lizton American Legion Post. He was also a member of the Danville Masonic Lodge, Knights Templar, Crawfordsville-Indianapolis Mystic Shrine, the Sixth District and Indiana Veterinary Association and the American Veterinary Association. He was a past president of the Indiana association. He was 68 years old. His first marriage was to Geraldine M. Leak of Lizton in 1915 and they were the parents of two sons. She died in 1955. In 1957, he was married to Ruhama Dean of North Salem. Surviving with his widow, Ruhama, are the two sons, Quinten of Indianapolis and Oscar of Rockville; a brother, Herbert of Pittsboro and a sister, Lydia Shook of San Antonio, Texas, also three grandchildren.
