Edith Lydia Hale Rutledge, age 79, correspondent for the Republican for many years and the former Brownsburg Record, died, April 12, in the Hendricks County Hospital following an extended illness.
She had lived her entire lifetime in the family homestead near Lizton, where she was born, Sept. 23, 1893, to Joe and Martha Hale, a pioneer family there.
She was married, Oct. 1, 1911, to the late Harry Rutledge with the former Aubery Moore officiating. They celebrated their golden anniversary, Oct 1, 1961. She was a member of the Lizton Christian Church where funeral services were conducted, Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. Donald Farrior of Indianapolis and Rev. Tom Dewitt, church pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Lizton K. of P. Cemetery. The Jones & Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, was in charge of arrangements.
An active church worker, she was a former pianist for the Pittsboro Christian and the functions of the Rainstown Church. She was a member of the Hendricks County Hospital Guild, Lizton Homemaker's Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include five children, Mrs. Maxine Dale, Mrs. Arline Wiley and John H. Rutledge, all of Lizton; Mrs. Katherine Brady, Indianapolis; and Robert Rutledge, Toledo, Ohio; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
