John enlisted in the Army at Boston, MA on 1 June 1942 and volunteered for parachutist duty.
Pvt Driscoll was assigned to Company B, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment and participated in the invasion of France on D-Day, 6 June 1944.
On 26 June he was officially listed as Missing In Action as of 6 June 1944.
It was not until 1 November 1944 that his status was changed from missing in action to killed in action 6 June 44 battle casualty.
His military awards include the Good Conduct Medal and posthumous awards of the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
