The retired owner of the Fisher Elevator at Maplewood, George. L. (Roy) Fisher, 81, Pittsboro, died on Thursday, December 13, 1979 at his residence. He retired in 1971 after operating the grain elevator since 1923. A resident of Pittsboro for several years, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the State Bank of Lizton. In 1921, Mr. Fisher graduated with distinction from Purdue University. He served on the Purdue Livestock judging team which won first place at the 1921 Chicago International Livestock Show. Following World War II, he taught in the Hendricks County farm training program. For 23 years, he served on the Hendricks County Selective Service Board. His memberships included Pittsboro Masonic Lodge 620, Pittsboro Christian Church, Royal Arch Masons, York Rite, Alpha Gamma Rho and Alpha Zeta fraternities, Hoof and Horn, Purdue Alumni Association, Pittsboro Chapter 416 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Hendricks County and Indiana Historical Societies. Survivors are his wife, Frances; a daughter, Marilyn Hill, Urbana, Illinois; and four grandchildren: Martha, Rick, John and Rob Hill. Services were held on Dec. 16, 1979 at the Pittsboro Christian Church. Rev. William McGraw officiated at the services. Burial was in the K. of P. Cemetery at Lizton.
