Louisa (Raeuchle) Brumm was born in Sternenfels, Wurttemberg, the daughter of Sternenfels natives Johannes George Raeuchle (1800-1841) and Maria Magdalena Herrmann (1805-1881). She was the third of their eight known children. Her paternal grandparents, also of the town of Sternenfels, have records in which the family name was spelled "Raichlin."
Louisa married Daniel Brumm June 6, 1852, in Sternenfels, and they immigrated to the United States with Daniel's brother, Carl Brumm, traveling between Le Havre, France and New Orleans, Louisiana, between October to December 1853. Traveling north on the Mississippi River, they first settled with Carl's family in Burlington, Iowa, but returned south to St. Louis within a few years, and much of the family descended from their children still are residents of this region.
Her obituary was published in St. Louis on May 26, 1916:
