Jon (Bunt) Edward Abshier, 81, of Wadsworth, Texas passed away on May 30, 2012 in Wadsworth, Texas. He was born on September 8th, 1930 in New Gulf, Texas to James R. Abshier and Lois E Lee. He married Vivian Lucille Ottis on August 9,1951 in Wadsworth, Texas, where they lived and raised their 5 children. He served in the United States Air force for 4 years and was discharged with the rank of Staff Sargent. After his military service he was employed with Texas Gulf Sulfur and then worked for Celenese as a draftsmen. He and his brother in law Charles Ottis took over the family rice farming business 1966-1975. He was in the construction business for 10 years and then the oil lease business for an additional 6 years. He retire from the City of Bay City as the Director of Public works after 12 years of service. After retirement he ran a successful small engine repairs service.

He enjoyed life to the fullest with the love of his life "Tut" for 60 years. Together they raised 5 children, 4 boys and 1 girl. 12 grandchildren and 16 great grand children. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. A true outdoorsman who out fished the boys even on his last fishing trip a just a month ago thanks to Al Garrison.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served as a eucharistic minister, a member of the Knights of Columbus Counsel 3070 and the "PAPA Bear" of the Men's ACTS community. He was a volunteer with the Matagorda Regional Hospital Auxiliary where his smile brightened many a day.

He was proceeded in death by his father James R. Abshier, mother Lois E Lee, brother James Robert (George) Abshier, and Sister Wanda Estelle Alberts.

He is survived by his wife Vivian Lucille Abshier, Sister Karen (Toodles) and husband Julian Williams; Sons; Kim O.and his wife Karen and their children; Amy and husband Ricky Reyes and children Ester Rose and Ian, Douglas Paul and wife Stacey; J. David and wife Melissa and Gus; Charles S. and wife Sandi and their children Charlie T., Christopher L. and children Kyrsten, Madison, and Clayton; Chesny and husband Chris Girouard and children Emily, Haylee, and Brindley; Kaci and husband JJ Tindell and children Peyton and Maddox; Daughter Beth A McDonald and husband JW and children Wendie and Bobbie Bourroughs and their children Kaitlyn, Tawni, Asa, and Addi; Jeremy McDonald and JoAnn and their children Mikayla and Blaine; Amber Joe McDonald; Son Mitch J. and Paula and children Taylor and Lindsey. He is also survived by a large number of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
