William was a Civil War Veteran, in 17th regiment, Ohio Volunteers Infinity for three months. In 1862 he re-enlisted in Company D, 99th Regiment, as a druggist in the medical department until honorable discharge in 1865.
In Sept. 1865 William came to Van Wert and was engaged in a plastering business. Later he accepted a position as a teller at the Van Wert National Bank. He was also the Vice President of The Peoples Savings Bank.
