Son of Claudia Corrine Nesmith and Glen Edward Greenwood.

1966 Graduate of Sam Houston High School in Arlington. Died from wounds from a artillery/rocket/mortar attack while serving with H Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Dale was killed in the vicinity of Fire Support Base Cunningham,24 miles South-Southwest of Quang Tri, during Operation Dewey Canyon.

He was helping unload supplies from a CH46 Helicopter that took a direct hit causing an explosion that killed Dale and 2 Marines,as a result of incoming mortar fire.
