Charles was born and raised in Youngstown and graduated from North High School in 1960 ,where he was member of the football team.

Charles enlisted in the Marines Reserves 26 November 1965 at the Cleveland Recruiting Office. Arriving for boot camp Charles went into active duty with the Marines.

Arriving in Vietnam Charles was assigned to Hotel Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Charles was wounded at approximately 1100H by small arms fire while on a combat patrol in the mountains, 14 kilometers north northwest of the An Hoa Airfield while participating in Operation Allegheny. Charles died as a result of a gunshot

wound that penetrated the right side of his neck at 1200H, before he was med-evac.

Charles was single and served his country for 8 months and 27 days and was KIA #6,114.

Tour of duty unknown.

Charles was 23 years,11 months and 16 days old.

Survived by his stepfather and mother, Albert and Rose Marie Ranno, his brother, Phillip C Azara and 2 sisters, Francis and Marlene Azara of 8228 Southern Blvd, Youngstown, Ohio, and his father, Charles Frederick Azara Sr of 45 Porter St, Campbell, Ohio.
