Frederick was living in Merrick, NY when he entered the service and was a member of Company H, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division.
On December 25, 1967, he was on patrol southwest of Da Nang, South Vietnam, when he was taken prisoner. He died in captivity on January 2, 1969.
His remains were recovered on October 4, 1994 and identified on April 13, 1995.
His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.

He was a rifleman with 2nd Platoon of Hotel Company. He went mising during a night patrol near Dien Ngoc Village,Dien Ban District,eight kilometers South Southeast of Marble Mountain Airfield.
He died from malnutrition. During the time of captivity he was promoted to Sgt.
