Biblical patriarch. Patriarch of the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim religions. Living approximately in the late 21st to early 20th centuries BCE,no later than the 19th century BCE, he left Ur of the Chaldees and went to Haran in Syria with his father Terah and their immediate family members. He moved again, this time to Canaan, taking his nephew Lot with him. He lived in Hebron. He bought the cave of Machpelah from its Hittite owner Ephron for 400 shekels of silver to bury his wife Sarah. Later, his sons Isaac and Ishmael together buried him,aged 175 years,in the cave beside Sarah. He is the father of Isaac by Sarah and Ishmael by Hagar, his concubine. He also has children by a second wife, Keturah, married after the death of Sarah. In Muslim history he is called Ibrahim.
