"Rev. Edward ROOT, was the son of Anson and Sally (Brooks) ROOT, and was born in Litchfield Co. Conn Feb. 4, 1822. Twenty years later, he was married to Lucy S. Palmer (15 May 1842, Ohio).
H. D. Root, M.D., one of their six children now living, has served in the Nebraska Legislature. Brother Root received license from the Williamsfield church [Freewill Baptist] of the Ashtabula Quarterly Meeting (Q.M.) Ohio, in 1839, and two years later, was ordained by the Huron Q.M. He ministered ten years to the Greenfield and New Haven church, in Ohio; fifteen years to the church in Porter, Mich., and ten years to the church of Centreville, Nebraska, and to other churches for briefer periods. He has engaged in many revivals and assisted in organizing ten or more churches. He is now a member of the Executive Board of Nebraska and pastor of the Long Branch and Grand View churches."
