Harold Harris was the third of five sons born to English immigrants Henry Harris (1894-1951) and Elizabeth (Powell) Harris (1894-1967). His parents settled in Burlington, Iowa, after their move to the United States. Harold served during World War II. He enlisted June 7, 1943 at Camp Dodge Herrold, near Des Moines, Iowa. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, and additional Army medals. He was killed during the war April 22, 1945, at Bastiglia, in Italy.
