Sophia A. Meyers, a native of Burlington, Iowa, was the daughter of John Frederick Meyers (Sr.) (1834-1907) and Dorthea "Dora" (Beck) Meyers (1828-1874).

As is often the case with the spelling of names in earlier times, the family name was sometimes spelled in other ways, the most usual of which was probably "Myers." It should also be noted that her given name was spelled both "Sophia" and "Sophya."

Sophia had eight known siblings. They were: Mary Meyers, Christian Henry Myers, Sarah Myers (who died at about age 3), John H. Myers (who died as an infant), John F. Myers (Jr.) (1864-1918), Louisa Myers, Mary "Margaret" Myers, and Luella "Ellen" Myers.

Sophia was married in Burlington, Iowa, to Philip Brumm, the son of Carl "Charles" Brumm (1816-1870) and Eva Juliana (Osswald) Brumm (1823-1902), on October 7, 1878. They lived throughout their married life in Burlington and the vicinity, though both died in Waterloo, Iowa, in 1920, about a month apart. They were the parents of five children, a son, three daughters, and a child who apparently died as an infant.

Please see notes under her husband, Philip, also regarding the burial location which is mentioned in her funeral notice of May 19, 1920.
